Press Release

Dont base the popularity on the award shows. These are most of time manipulated. Fawak Khan, Sanam Baloch and Samina Pirzada will always be remembered for Dastan, Humsafar and Dur-e-Shehwar. I think, its time we have our own "Viewers Choice Award" without much manipulation and biasness.

  • Anwar Suhail

HUMSAFAR is the first Pakistani drama being aired by Indian Channel . Hum Tv has sold rights to an Indian channel to air Humsafar every Saturday evenings.

  • Roh

    @Sadaf: quoting you <<<i>>>

lol Khizar gave me a headache with his bak bak bak bak monolgue too! :D

  • Sadaf

@Sherry Yaay your back girl :) I love Mahira too though I think she was amazing in SEZ but Sanam deserved better than this .Des Deserved better so did Bilqees Kaur never mind lets all go watch the episode where the beautiful DeS first meets our fave mummys boy Mansoor in her parents garden ......It will make you feel better ..

  • Sherry

I don't even feel like commenting, yet I must, since I'm so bummed about this! I get why Humsafar wasn't nominated. But you freaking snubbed Haissam Hussain and Durre Shahwar for Sanjha? I'm sorry, but who even watched Sanjha? Didn't wtach BK due to the language barrier, but from what I've caught, ignoring it seems not to have gone down well with many people. DeS was perfect!

I'm really surprised FK even showed up to this event; he's been snubbed several times.. he deserved atleast one best actor nomination out of the three for Dastan, Humsafar and AA. Heavy duty scene tha.

And Mahira? Agreed she's only 3 dramas old, and shes shown massive improvement over the the course of her career... But her nomination and subsequent win seemed irreverant yaar. You're comparing her to the likes of Sanam Baloch, Sania Saeed, Aamina Sheikh, Savera Nadeem AND Saba Qamar (who totally deserved to win for Maat. Her character was pure evil). If her win was indeed decided upon by popular vote, then the Pakistani audience can't tell a brilliant actress from a superstar. Don't get me wrong, I love Mahira, but she's overrated. :( Though that's not her fault.

    Had to vent.

@Afia Oh yes that was a hard scene to watch even .... and who let us all not fiorget how Asher never ever ever lies to his mother .....p)

  • afia qazi

Sadaf- yeh na karo mere saath- ab kya kya yaad karoi gi? chalo phir zabaradast toh woh 4 saal baad ka office scene bhi tha.

  • Sadaf

Ok if we are going into a Husafar induced ecstasy ... I vote for the " I have a headache because you were talkig too much to Khizar and I got desperately jealous despite my Yale education because I am Pakistani" conversation ..

  • SK

What about the rain scene in Epi 9... cant miss that out lol!

  • afia qazi

Yeah Roh , what could be better ;)

  • Roh

    @afia qazi: and then ep. 20 to 23 :)

  • Sadaf

@Afia you are right there is more betwixt heaven and Earth than this , let us not be Deeba baji let's all move on ;)

  • afia qazi

These awards were as bogus as bogus comes so let's not waste time and energy on them- instead watch Humsafar ep 5-7 :)

  • SK

Cannot believe Sarmad Haissam Hussain were not nominated ....what kind of n

ridiculous nominations were these. Yahan pyar nahi hai and Roshan sitara , but no Des and Bilqeees kaur.. Give me a break!!

@ Sadaf totally agree, but at least HS got the phenomenal serial. , But classy dramas like the above have been totally ignored, and the mediocre has bee recognized.

Samina peerzada gets it for Roshan sitara but not Des....really!!

Meekal gets nominated for SEZ but not des where I thought he was way better..

No Ahsan and Syra or meekal sanam in nominations when they were so cute together...

These two dramas have been snubbed for some unknown reason, I am so annoyed at these fake awards.

  • Laiba

If that's the case thn the nominations were really pathetic n unfair :( Durre shahwar was neglected before ....agreed mahira's performance was good in shehr e zaat bt sanam in DeS was beyond perfect... Fawad shud ve gotten the best actor n best director should ve been given to humsafar n DeS both... Script bhi DeS ki better thi shehr e zaat se.... The letters...incomparable !!!....n bilquees kaur... Tht too was an amazing play.....

  • Anwar Suhail

@Sadaf, U R absolutely right. People don't remember if Tanhayian, Ankahi, Shama or Aangan Terha ever received any awards but these serials are fresh in memories. HUMSAFAR is milestone in rejuvenation and revival of Pakistani Drama. It was almost perfect. Jury should have nominated Humsafar at least for best drama, direction and OST for their own credibility. It's Hum Tv's loss

  • Sana

Sadaf, same exact feeling. People point it out to be a drag and overrated. I re-watch it each time and fall more and more in love with it instead. Six times so far..

I guess it's just inexplainable as to why it's so special.. There's something in it that I can't forget.

  • Sadaf

Award shows are always like this , we all think we know better. However this time we do. HUmsafar should have been in the best serial category, even if say it was not in the other categories. Of course Sarmad Khoosat and Haissem Hussain should have been nominated and we can argue later as to who should have won. How could they ignore BIlqees Kaur and DES ? I really think this could have been easily managed by having a critics or say peers choice for each category .

When I first heard they were ignoring HUmsafar I had a pitchfork and nicely burning torch in my hand ready to storm the palace walls ..then I realised no one is going to remember these awards in a few months let alone years ,whereas Humsafar is going to be remembered in the public's hearts and minds forever as an iconic milestone in Pakistani Drama history. I hear a lot of talk about it being overrated blah blah blah then I go back and watch it ... each time I come away with the renewed conviction of it as a masterpiece,

  • Tootles

    When are they airing?

  • Sana

One more thing, what's up with the statement that Mahira didn't deserve to win because Fawad didn't win for Humsafar? People are saying she shouldn't have been nominated? Has anyone even read the nominations right? She was nominated for Shehr-e-Zaat not Humsafar..

Secondly, did half the people who are complaining even vote? I know a lot didn't. Hum said that the votes that came in were shocking and unexpected..

  • Sana

Well according to Hum TV folks, they wanted to make a "fair" award show by recognizing all of the small serials which usually go unnoticed, basically leaving out all the one's most people watch. And IMO it was a pretty dumb idea. It's like saying please by all means no one make a good drama, do something mediocre and you'll get recognition in our award shows. The nominations were already beyond shitty. I don't care if you gave Dastaan a special award or you gave Humsafar a phenomenal series award. Fawad Khan deserved to bag a best actor nomination if not award.. Humsafar, DES, and Bilquees Kaur all should've been included for best drama. Sarmad Khoosat should've won best director for Humsafar and Shehr-e-Zaat.. You snubbed him for personal issues. I mean Hum has a lot of dirty politics going on behind the scenes like all other channels. They have personal bias. There should have been two categories.. jury and popular. I wanted Saba Qamar to win best actor but I only and only blame the channel for her loss. If people recognized Noman Ijaz and Mahira, the jury could've recognized Saba Qamar and perhaps Fawad Khan, Meekal or Adnan Siddiqui.. None of our award functions are ever fair. Humayun Saeed and Noman won for years.. Bushra, Sania, Savera have been winning for so long. Faisal's getting his turn now during which Fahad got ignored and actresses are still not getting their due. Sanam was ignored for Dastaan, Saba for Pani Jaisa Pyar.

Mahira Khan has a huge fan base.. I'm not surprised she won. I personally also liked her performance in Shehr-e-Zaat whereas most people hated it.. It was a very difficult novel to adapt and a role to act and I thought she played the shades of Falak perfectly with slightly overacting in the beginning. When I think of who else could play the role there is no one. People are crying over her win as if someone died. Everyone's stating she's overrated and blah blah blah… Some are saying people cheated and Hum made her win on purpose. First and foremost no celeb is overrated. Fans make them overrated. Secondly, the audience's reactions and choice is always unexpected. I had a feeling they'd make her win. And now that she has get over it. She's someone whose two years old in the acting business and she's improved a lot over the three projects she's done. And she has the potential to become a very strong performer.. If she's won an award get over it.. it'll help her strive to become better. Mahira is someone who knows her weak points and she always mentions them. Her honesty about her bad acting and her mistakes is commendable. Every actress overacts at times, and I mean this. Coming back to Saba Qamar, she should've won for Pani Jaisa Pyaar and I hope she wins for Mein Chaand Si at Lux. These two performances are better than Maat. She's currently the best actress we have.. Extremely versatile. Samina Peerzada deserved to win for Shehr-e-Zaat or Durr-e-Shawar instead of Roshan crap Sitara.. Sanam didn't deserve a nomination for that. She should've gotten one for Durr-e-Shawar. One of the reasons Sanam despite being a great actress is ignored is due to her consistency in choosing bad projects like Nadamat or Roshan Sitara.. She should do more work, versatile roles, and stay away from bad projects. I'm sure had she not disappeared from the screen for so long, which she said herself she only wishes to work for a few years, she would've gotten more recognition.

Falak should've won best solo artist.. an extremely underrated folk.

I can go on and on about nominations, but the truth is award functions aren't meant to please us all. I think it was a good first try. Hope Hum learns from their mistakes and does better in the future. Maybe there's something better in store for those who didn't win today.

  • Annie

@Fatima and Misty - agree with you ladies. it's does seem more like a "thank you" award show rather than a talent recognition award show barring a few. It TOTALLY doesn't make sense to leave out DeS and Bilqees Kaur and the respective directors ,actors and writers who made it what it was.

  • Fatima Awan

What about Bari Apa? It ended only a few weeks back?

  • Fatima Awan

Misty thank you for the comment, but the answer sounds awfully lame. Joint production or not a good show should get the recognition it deserves. Just because the artists were too busy to promote the show, does not mean that they should be punished like this. HH and Sarmad deserved the best director award more than anyone else. My question is were they giving "character certificates" or awards for the respective categories????? Those who showed good attendance and character all through the year bagged the awards methinks:)

  • Misty

Laiba, MQMD aired during October of 2011 i think and went until beginning of DeS and before SeZ aired

  • Laiba

Did meray qatil meray dildaar end after bk Des n humsafar

  • Misty

With regards to DeS and BK thrown out from all nominations, A while back on MeJ's last epsiode review, Rameen ( a commentator) asked Momina Duraid this question:

There is one question regarding HUM TV and MD Productions that has baffled a lot of us. Why don't you and HUM TV treat your projects and teams equally? Some serials are overly hyped like MeJ and others are not given proper coverage and attention like DeS and Bilquees Kore. Although they are more popular and relateble than MeJ. DeS has ended recently but we didn't hear a word from you or your team about the director and his crew. MeJ ended yesterday and you are here thanking everyone. Don't you think this kind of unfair treatment is highly demoralizing for those people who are working day in day out to make your channel the most viewed one?

and here was MD's answer right on the same thread:

It good to see that all of you voice your opinions and questions openly. Bilquis kaur has just started and has been promoted equally as mata e Jaan. I would definitely thank our viewers there once it is over and was planning to do so on durreshehwar as that has only ended last week. Was a little confused though as this particular thank you note should be coming from both producers together as I would not want to take the complete ownership of the project as it Is a shared ownership. With durreshehwars promotion you r right to a certain extent. That was my first co production and the technical team was not mine. I was involved in the creatives only. We did not have an ost as we had to drop it last minute due to its similarity to an Indian number. Some of The artists refused to come and promote the serial due to their commitments. In short when it's my own production completely then the team is completely selected and lead by me and play is being promoted in a certain way. In a joint production who is arranging what becomes a question and especially when it's your first. We are learning everyday and will try not to repeat problems faced in our first co production. Shehr e zaat is my second co production and we have started in time and full blast it's promotion. So we are learning. With no artist availability and no ost, promotion of durreshehwar might be relatively less but promo frequency that was under our control is always the same from hum tv as a rule. You have to understand that from a channels point of view all prime time slots are equally important and one never intentionally promotes less or more. Sometimes conditions become such that one does not have a choice. To me all plays are like babies as I am with my projects like a mother from the first word of the script to the last scene edited.

And you can never be unfair to what you have so lovingly created with the grace of God.

I hope this answers your question.
