Kuch Pyar Ka Pagalpan – Episode 12
Wow. Today's episode of Kuch Pyar Ka Pagalpan can best be described as action-packed and extremely fast-paced. After the somewhat mellow pace of the previous few episodes, things finally got to a peak in this one.
Daneez proposed to Mujtaba, and Shimraiz almost proposed to Daneez. The love quadruple is finally beginning to take some shape and form. Kiran, by and large, seems to be out of the picture for now - though definitely not for long.
I spent most of the time today feeling sorry for Kiran, Daneez and Shimraiz. I think Daneez is inclined towards Mujtaba though she is apparently putting on the "act" for the sake of the "game" which we still don't know what it is. That is probably why she did not tell him she had proposed to Mujtaba.
So far, only Shimraiz seems to love Daneez and for purely selfless reasons. After watching the self-centred "love" of Kiran in the previous few episodes, it came as a relief to know that there are people willing to love for the sake of love. But of course, the question still looms larger than life: who really loves whom?
The episode had its fair share of laughter - I, for one, roared with laughter at Mujtaba's incredulous expression when Daneez proposed. And his response elicited more roars - "Thank you". How utterly like Mujtaba! It was a relief to see that he did realize the silliness of his response.
The only peeve I had in this episode was Kiran's hairstyle - it was alternating between the new one and the previous one. It was new at the beginning of the episode and old towards the end. What is happening? And the scenes were once again too long.
However, the wheels of the love quadruple are in full motion and I am again counting the days to next Friday!

Loved todays episode. The awkwardness of the new relationship between Mujtaba & Daneez was beautifully picturized.
I love the fact that all the characters have grey shades in them. They are not perfect. It is very refreshing to see that on screen.
Excellent job by the writer, directer & the cast. Love this drama.

DB, an apt summary of todays episode. Thankfully we were spared the loud slaptick of the last few episodes and the story seems to have found its pace now. Sanam was sooo much better today that for the first time I found myself empathizing with her characteriation of Kiran. I agree with the continuity problems. Not only with Sanam's hairstyle, but Fawad and Aisha's clothes seemed to be changing several times during the day. Thankfully, the dialogues were audible today, but why does the background music have to be on all the time. There is already so much of noise in the background and the loud music on top of it meant that I was adjusting the sound throughout todays episode.
The highlight today was of course the Thankyou?! scene. ROFL! Muju has been so well played by Fawad that one cannot help but feel for poor Muju as he bumbles through life. The scenes b/w Daneez and Muju were very well done, particularly the proposal scene and where he comes to apologize. But its just so hard to root for them as a couple. So much has been said about Aisha Khan's casting that its a non-issue now, but the scene where Daneez's parents were discussing ke Daneez ab bari ho gaye hai .... just too funny.
Looking fwd to next week's episode to see what advice does Muju's mother have to offer..

Annie Says:
The episode started out kind of oddly and I wasn't sure where it was heading. Mujtaba wanting to meet Daneez everyday while hiding it from Kiran. I was trying to figure out why he was ignoring Kiran completely. He seemed lost and confused and so did I because it wasn't like he had a fight with Kiran or that they weren't at least decent friends.
Anyways apart from the first 10 minutes, the rest of the episode was great! It picked up from that scene on the shores which by the way was nicely picturized...finally we saw Haissam the director and the DOP playing with lights and darks! It was so refreshing to see the camerawork there and on top of it the way Daneez portrayed her confusion and blurted our her proposal were so well acted out by Ayesha Khan. She really nailed that scene! I just hated the comment from Muj "paani mein doobna ka iraada hai" - it seemed so out of left field after she says she wants to do something positive and different w/ her life. I guess he really does think from his knees ;-) The thank you and welcome parts were funny. Overall best scene of the episode from picturization to acting.
They finally had Ayesha's hair down in one of the scenes (dinner table) and she looked younger that way. Not sure why they didn't go w/ that look instead of the pulled back ponytail look.
Also liked the fact that you could clearly see Mujtaba's confusion toward the end. He really would like to say Yes to Daneez because he has been infatuated by her since Day 1 but he's committed w/ Kiran because he wants to get his greencard. It will be interesting to see what he decides. I know his mom is going to tell him to break it off w/ Kiran and marry Daneez lol Since it's hard to predict what our "hero" will do, we'll have to wait and watch :-)

What an epi. WOW. Loved it.
@ Everyone: agree with you guys, The Thank-you scene was the highlight of todays epi. rofl.
I want to point out something: Kiran is not in love with Muju. She is just using him to escape her currunt situation/ home envirnment. Muju does'nt love her either. But I think he has true feelings towards Daneez.
The only reason we, the viewers are not accepting Daneez is because we root for Sanam_ Fawad as a couple.
Love the story, dialogues, direction & acting.
Love your reviews as well.

Annie you answered your question yourself :) Mujtaba is confused.. he does not understand why he is enjoying with Deneez and why he is lying with Kiran..and thats why he asks Deneez hum chup chup ke kyon mil rahay hain .. and to avoid this awkward feeling he nervously says stupid things like pani main koodnay ka irada to nahi hai He is a shareef guy so even if he is not in love with Kiran he is committed to her thats why he feels guilty. :)

Sarah Says:
LOVED the episode. I agree that the "thank-you" scene was the show stealer today. The dialogues and Fawad's expressions had me laughing out loud, and Ayesha Khan's acting was no less amazing. I too found it a little weird that Daneez and Mujju's wardrobe seemed to be changing throughout the course of the night, but then I realized that this is Haissam's subtle way of telling us that they've gone out together more than once. A failed attempt I must say, but whatever, Haissam made up for it with his directing of the "thank-you" scene. I'm hoping that we'll see more directing like this in the future episodes.
I have to agree with Muneeba on why we can't seem to accept Daneez. If we look at the characters in an unbiased way, I'm sure we'll all come up with the conclusion that Mujju and Daneez would make a better couple. BUT, it's nearly impossible for us to choose anyone besides Sanam to be Fawad's heroine. So, at the end of the day, it's not Kiran-Mujju that we're rooting for, it's Fawad-Sanam. I'm starting to wish that Sanam Baloch hadn't been chosen for Kiran's role, but I keep telling myself that there must be a reason that Haissam chose her. And then I get even more excited to find out where the story will go!
I actually liked Shimraiz today, and I suppose Mikaal was pretty good in today's episode too. As DB said, Shimraiz, unlike all these other confused characters, is straight-forward and knows what he wants; Daneez. But he also sees that she hasn't forgotten the whole Tanya mess. The problem is, he thinks that she's still in shock, where in reality, she's really a changed person. I'm thinking Shimraiz and Kiran are going to team up to stop the Daneez-Mujju train in its tracks, but will end up falling in love throughout this. But...Mikaal with Sanam? No no no no no.

Oh I forgot to mention that Ayesha Khan looked really nice today in the scene where she and Mujju were having dinner. Why couldn't she have kept that hairstyle throughout the show? Her dysfunctional wardrobe and screwed up make-up makes me angry every time I see it, no matter how much I try to tell myself to just deal with it. Was it really that hard to leave her hair down and give her a pair of jeans to wear?

A good episode actually with Aisha's good performane and of Fawad's as always. So well demonstration of confused emotions by both.Throughout the episode i felt for Kiran:( Muneeba and Saarah i also agree with you that the whole problem in accepting Mujju and Daneez is our biasis for Fawad-sanam duo.We actually want them together. I also wish that Sanam hadn't chose for playing Kiran but true is that no one other than Sanam Baloch can play Kiran so superbly as she did. Still hard to accept Daneez and Mujju as couple :(
Thankyou scene and the way both mujju and daneez covered the proposal with * i like u* was really very interesting.

Thanks for all your comments, guys! Really loved them!
Well, I too am a die-hard Sanam-Fawad fan, BUT in this serial, I really want Shimraiz-Daneez and Kiran-Mujtaba only because (according to my analysis so far), all four are their "real" selves only in front of each other. Mujtaba seems too reformed in front of Daneez and I am just wondering how Kiran's language and Shimraiz's "language please" will reconcile. Also, Daneez and Shimraiz already have so much money they cannot possibly marry each other for materialistic motives. (And Mujtaba/Kiran have none LOL)
Apart from that, well, can't Mujtaba get a green card through Daneez? I agree his confusion was portrayed brilliantly - I would have thought, given the way he was shown in the first episode - that he would dump Kiran without a second thought. He has always been inclined towards Daneez. But he didn't do that. Yep, the mother will probably think it's better for him to go for Daneez rather than their "naukrani". LOL
Posted on December 10th, 2011 at 10:42 am
S Z Says:
DB, not sure if Kiran-Mujtaba and Daneez-Shimraiz are ever their "real" selves with each other in the play. Kiran is interested in Muju b/c she thinks he's her shortcut to wealth, and she's not shared that with Mujtaba. Mujtaba, too, has not yet come clean with Kiran and told her that he does not really have a house in Defense. As for the second couple, Daneez has not told Shimraiz about her growing interest in Mujtaba and her marriage proposal. Shimraiz, I dont think, has ever confided in Daneez as to what his real problem w/Mujtaba is ....
AS far as I can see the only "real" relationship that we have seen so far is b/w Muju and his mother. He is honest with her and she has no qualms in speaking her mind.. her opinion of the naukrani was hilariously refreshing as was her interest in what the chacha had given to Muju as an engagement present ...

Drama Buff Says:
Well, of course, they are hiding their intentions, but when I say real self, I mean what they ARE (their personalities).
Haha @ Mujtaba's mother - at least in this drama we know why Mujtaba is the way he is.
Posted on December 10th, 2011 at 12:18 pm
S Z Says:
Are we even sure as to what theire "reel" personalities are... they switch around quite easily. Case in point, Daneez's 360 degree turn after hearing Muju's story :)
LOL! I just love the interactions b/w Muju and his mom, it was their chemistry in the first episode that got me hooked :D

Drama Buff Says:
Hehehe yeah interesting characterization. That's why I said in one of my earlier reviews that literature students should watch this drama and learn character studies.
They are definitely more realistic characters than we see in many other dramas:
Daneez - insecure, arrogant, jealous, selfish, etc. but then Tania's death shakes her and she now wants to do positive things. (I think she is still unsure of what she wants because she is juggling her own feelings with her promise to Shimraiz to help him out).
Shimraiz - I think he sincerely loves Daneez and his secret fear is that Daneez will fall for Mujtaba.
Kiran - outspoken, loud-mouthed, touch-me-not, etc. but also insecure as we saw in the scene with Mujtaba when she asks - promise me tum mujhay dhoka nahi do gay
Mujtaba - well, he's Mujtaba - dreams big but is apparently rather affected by women's emotions LOL.

Hey guys..I have been following this forum and I was more of a silent member here..I must say you guys do some really good analysis here *impressed* But after watching yesterday;s epi, I dont know I was rather dissapointed! Well in my opinion the episode was quite haphazard and it didn't turn out well. The editing seemed too abrupt and it was really difficult for me to connect to the characters. Daneez-Mujtaba lovestory seemed quite rushed up.I really don't understand what has happened to Haissam's direction. His work was soo flawless during Dastaan..The scene where Kiran goes to meet Mujtaba in his office..it ended so abruptly and the direction was bad there and then in another scene they're shown as if nothing happened between the two..everything was fine!I Couldnt just link the scenes!=/ And then there was this scene where Daneez parents are having dinner and in middle of their convo, the title song started playing in the bg!=/ It made no sense at all! Though I am a die hard Sanam Fawad fan and I still really want them to end up together but its not like I dont like Daneez-Muju that is why I am pointing out the flaws here-yeah i know the story did pick up pace but it was just too rushed up and um direction wasnt good! Will wait for the next episode now-I hope it makes sense!=)

farah sadiq Says:
@ Resham....... dont agree with u. I love the pace of the play, it is progressing in a good, fast, smooth way. The story & direction is perfect. I wonder what your reaction is to some other plays on tv if you find flaws in this one.
I do agree with u on the background music being too loud. The producers should have paid more money to the sound editor. lol. He seems to be pissed off most of the time or just didnt pay attention.
Posted on December 10th, 2011 at 10:54 pm
Annie Says:
Thanks Samiraji for clearing up my confusion which I didn't realize I had cleared up myself lol!
Agree Resham that the direction is still not up to mark. I am still not sure what has happened to Haissam and his editing team. I guess we'll never figure it out. He is now just sparks of good direction rather than a completely well directed episode. At least in this episode there wasn't really loud music drowning out the dialogues.
I for one am not rooting for Fawad-Sanam to be together. Haissam really ruined it for me by casting them together in Akbari Asghari. That drama really killed the whole Bano-Hassan image for me.
If they had worked on Daneez's wardrobe, hair, and makeup, it would have been easier for me to digest the Muj-Daneez couple. But again in the computer room scene Muj looked like Daneez's younger brother sitting next to her. He could have easily been saying "baaji mujhe thoday paisay dai do buss ka ticket karna hai" Anyways I will try to overlook the humor in the scenes that I am creating for myself but it will be very tough.
I would like to applaud Ayesha's english pronunciation which did not come across as fake while Shamraiz's "moron" was nothing short of laughable :-D

@Farah Well i agree that story did pick up the pace and I mentioned that in my post. I have seen other shows on television and I am not even comparing it to them,it is far better then them.I just compared it with Haissam's previous work.i.e Dastaan. And yeah LOL I agree with u on that sound editor part. The background scores are way too loud.

S Z Says:
@ Annie: "baji mujhe bas ka ticket ..". too funny, but true! Now, when watching this serial I dont even TRY to imagine Muju-Daneez as pair anymore. On the other hand, the Muju-Kiran pairing doesnt hold any charm for me either. I just enjoy watching Fawad bring the moronic Muju to life. As I posted earlier the only only chemistry I see here is b/w Muju and his mom. the best pairing of the serial :)
Agree with eveyone about HH's direction - really sad to see a good director making such a hash of things. For me, the story has never really worked, the pacing has been to erratic, the sound is really bad, the OST plays at inopportune moments and the only dard I feel is in my own head after hearing the song repeat every two seconds ...

I leave finding the humor part in Humsafar to my husband. He does such a good job of making me laugh with his comments on Humsafar.

Drama Buff Says:
I am totally with you guys regarding the OST being played at all the wrong times. Doesn't make any sense, especially when you consider that in the first few episodes, the background music did match the scene. Sigh
Posted on December 11th, 2011 at 1:30 pm
Drama Buff Says:
Yaar, Annie, I do want Kiran and Mujtaba together. Apart from the reason mentioned above, I also think the message of the serial so far has been - you don't always get what you have dreamed about / the grass isn't greener on the other side, and so on.
If Mujtaba gets Daneez as a wife, then he got what he had always wanted - a rich wife with a foreign nationality. The message would be totally lost.
Posted on December 11th, 2011 at 2:11 pm
Annie Says:
I agree with you DB that Muj and Kiran deserve eachother because they are more themselves when they are around eachother and they need to learn that money doesn't really buy you happiness. I was just saying that Haissam has completely destroyed the Fawad-Sanam pairing for me that he so masterfully created in Dastaan. :(

Simky Says:
I think its got everything to do with the versatility. Haissam hussain has given us 3 very different couples in terms of romantic Hassan/Bano, cunning Asghar/Akbari and now ambitious Kiran/Mujtaba and honestly speaking i loved all three of them. @ Annie/Aisha not everything has to go Mills & Boon way. Lol Please learn to appreciate the couple's versatility and the work of an intelligent director, who didnt typecast them over and over again in romantic sagas.
Posted on December 13th, 2011 at 1:23 am
Annie Says:
Simky it is not a question of typecasting. I would have been bored if we saw another Hassan-Bano type pairing.
Sanam just did not fit the role of Akbari at all!!! She could not even speak proper English in any of the episodes! It was so frustrating to see her act like she was a British born and raised girl making weird faces all the time. She couldn't even pronounce "Sara" properly. Nobody who has lived in Britain for 20+ years talks like that esp. when they have not visited Pakistan or met any of their relatives while living abroad to give them the "urdu/punjabi" influence. Again I cannot express my frustration at the horrible acting job there.
As far as playing Kiran in KPKP, she has her moments. Sometimes I feel like I am watching a 10 year old girl and sometimes I feel like I am watching a suljhi hui actress.
Anyways just my 2 cents. I just wanted to clarify that I was not expecting a lovey dovey romantic story over and over again from the pair :-)

Fawad lived the character of Akbar and everyone else did a great job as well. True it was miles away from their fawad and sanam's characters in Dastan but I loved them in this as well.

@Afia: Just saw your comment and wondered what were u responding to, and in the process ended up reading the entire thread -- yaar, we totally need another KPKP in our DP lives ... so much fun, so much discussion and in hindsight so many ghalat andazas abt the story - lol!! it really did keep us on our toes ...
For all those people who keep saying that we are suffering from a Humsafar hangover and keep comparing everything to Humsafar - I invite them all to come and spend time reading the KPKP archive... This serial was taking place right alongside Humsafar and also starring Fawad, but not any point did anyone accuse us of comparing KPKP to Humsafar... in fact none of the comments here are comparing Fawad's Muju to his Ashar or saying that Aisha should have been replaced by Mahira. Both series were being watched just as seriously and with as much passion.
All those who question or wonder why Ashk is being critiqued to death here on DP, need only to remove their own blinkers, rather than asking us to remove ours, and take a long hard look at the product that has been put out .... yes, armchair critics we might be, but even we can see the difference b/w a good and bad project.
